On March 11, 2023, China's first GMHS opened at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition Center. GMHS is the acronym for Global Minimalism Hobby Show in English, officially translated as "Shanghai (International) Miniature Art Model Expo" in Chinese.
In the "Great Craftsman Hall" exhibition area, 36 top model artists in the industry each presented a representative work for exhibition. The exquisite production has made many viewers exclaim, "as if watching a fight between immortals.". For example, the work of model designer Deng Yanwu, who claims to be a "Chinese space enthusiast," is called "Questioning the Sky.". The theme is the successful launch of the Long March 5 manned spacecraft, which is meticulously recreated in a 1:200 ratio, including the expressions and movements of the on-site staff.
The inspiration for the work of scene modeler Xin Yuan comes from the fantasy animation "Red Pig" by Japanese anime master Hayao Miyazaki. Consolidate the three scenes of workshop, bedroom, and beach into one suitcase, hoping to find a new self in the "art journey" of model design, just like the protagonist of "Red Pig".
At the exhibition site, more than a hundred model related enterprises and organizations have set up booths to showcase new models using the latest materials and painting techniques. In addition to watching the exhibition, visitors can also participate in voting to select the "best booth" in their minds. The top 10 booths with the highest number of votes will be sponsored by the organizers to participate in the 61st Shizuoka Model Expo, which will be held on May 11th this year in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, for free.
The organizer stated that the Shanghai (International) Miniature Art Model Expo is planned to be held annually, aiming to continuously improve quality and expand scale by benchmarking against the globally renowned Shizuoka Model Expo, attracting professionals and audiences from around the world to come and interact.
